Cantus is a chamber choir that was formed in March 2001 and originally based in central London, UK. As a chamber choir that staged concerts, the group specialised in performing a wide variety of music from Faurés "Requiem" to a-cappella versions of such Christmas classics as "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas", and in differing styles from Purcell to Howells and Bach to Duruflé. Since losing its London facilities, you can now see us in UK cathedrals when we deputise for the regular choir while they are on holiday.

Our aims

Cantus has high aspirations. As a visiting choir at numerous cathedral choirs around the UK we need to match the exacting standards set by the "in-house" singers. The reputation for meeting this demand has been gained, and Cantus doesn't intend to lose the reputation soon!

Cantus philosophy

Although singing skills and sight reading are key attributes for those wishing to sing with Cantus we prize passion for the music above technical ability. The mechanics of singing can always be learnt but most of all we are looking to recruit people with musical souls. Of course, if you enjoy convivial company down at a local hostalry afterwards all the better...
